Museo de Historia Natural

We have a short list of things to do and see before we move home. One of those things became the Museum of Natural History.

Matt loved the archers.

After doing a search of museums in the area, I found this one...and there was a dinosaur skeleton. Henlie's kind of into dinosaurs (thanks, George from Peppa Pig), so I added it to our list.
Henlie was so excited to have a "tickent" of her own.
She loves pretending to give out or collect tickets. I don't always know what we need them for, but she loves them. Also, no matter how hard I try, I can't get her to take the "n" out of the word :)

Overall, the museum is pretty small. I do enjoy how they re-purpose buildings. At least, I assume that's what happened because if it was designed to house such things, it's a pretty silly layout :) Also, gotta love Peru, admission was super cheap :)

They had some pretty neat stuff, though. Along with the dinosaurs, a giant fish, other fish, turtles, birds, snakes, butterflies, freaking parasites, and furry creatures. They also had rocks and various plants.

Andrés and Licet came with us. Andrés held Andrew part of the time, and Licet carried the diaper bag for me. They're so sweet :) Poor Andrés had to take a break before we looked at the rocks, though. His knee was pretty swollen and made all of the walking a bit difficult. And the stairs. Matt poked fun at him watching him climb up the stairs. Matt isn't kind haha It's a good thing they are friends :)

 That bat's name is Zorro. Zorro Volador, specifically.

In English, we call it a Paradise tanager :)

I think that's a different type of whale skeleton.

We found tadpoles and some tiny see-through fish in a pond.

I quite enjoyed the museum. I would have probably taken longer to go through it if I'd been able to read the signs. :) Some of the fish listed things in both Spanish and English, but for the most part, everything was in Spanish, which was okay. It was pretty neat to look through it all anyway.

They had this cute little cabin that looks like they probably sometimes do kids' presentations there.

Snapped a shot of a cute little red bird. I'd seen them a few times, but never gotten a picture. Thanks to their informative signs which I took pictures of, I can tell you it is a Vermilion flycatcher. (No, they didn't list it in English. That's why we have scientific names ....... and Google :))

 It was a really fun outing. I'm glad we got to go, and it was fun to go with friends. We are kind of nerdy and enjoy going to museums anyway. It was just fun to go to one somewhere we don't live to see different kinds of animals and plants. Also, to learn what some of those animals and plants are called that we see around :)
