Friday night, Henlie had some issues with staying asleep. Ugh. She actually went down pretty easily and stayed asleep until we had come to bed. She awoke a few times, eventually ending up in bed with us. We took some morning selfies while Daddy tried to get some more sleep in :)
Good morning!
She was yawning while waving at the camera.
Silly picture!
Daddy was trying to ignore us :)
Koreen didn't want to go to the pancake breakfast, so Karen picked up some breakfast items at the store as well. We had scrambled eggs, sausage, and bakery goods. Matt enjoyed a chocolate chip muffin while I had a cinnamon roll :) Oh, and milk to drink.
After cleaning (and my needing to vacuum a spider *shudder* - the third documented spider of the trip) and packing, we headed back down to Malad. Henlie took a nap on the way down. We were the first ones there, so we walked the booths and let Henlie play at the playground again. The festival really is kind of boring, especially if you're not interested in any of the lecture presentations.
Don't freak out, she wasn't unbuckled for the drive down. I just opted to take a picture before we pulled her out of the car.

Going through the tube!
Daddy helping her with the digger.
Grumpy even got down on the ground at one point to see what she was up to.
(At this point, she had gathered sticks and rocks and was seeing how well they did for drawing in the sand.)
I made some more executive decisions Saturday, as well. For example, we took Grumpy on a wagon tour with us. Apparently in years past, they were pulled by horses, but this year, they just used trucks. Karen, Mike, Kris, and Grandma stayed behind. Kristy was too busy buying books from the library used book sale to come with us :)
Ryker, Elisabeth, and Koreen.
Why, yes, that is Elisabeth's normal face ;)
Family selfie with Grandpa Wilson :)
The wagon tour we went on was of South Main. We learned some interesting little factoids about various places in Malad, and then we were dropped off at a cabin for a little tour.
I feel like this would have been a pretty good picture if I hadn't gotten the guide's shoe in it :)
Apparently this is the place to find some awesome homemade croup ointment.
They say this is being restored to be a functioning hotel again.
Also, props to the wind for holding up the Welsh flag :)
The cabin.

Everyone congregating outside the cabin.
Turns out, the descendents who own the cabin are related to us through one of the 5 original Welsh founders of Malad City, James Evans Jones. That made it a little more interesting since it became personal. They shared some family history and let us see some of the family records they had. James Evans Jones and Annie Williams had 11 kids. One was Daisy May and is who the owners of the cabin are related to. One was Margaret Elizabeth, who married William Riley Dennis. They had three children, one of which was Marguerite Josephine. Marguerite married Guy Leroy Wilson. One of their children was my grandpa, Guy Elden Wilson. So, one of the five original Welsh founders of the Malad Valley was my 3rd great grandpa, James Evans Jones. (Henlie's 4th great grandparents!)

Old Book of Mormon. I love the font :)
They were super nice people. The husband let Matt try out one of the "toys" they had, a little view finder type of thing. He also offered to take our picture. They took group photos of us with James and Annie's picture. The wife played the phonograph for Grandpa. It was so cute. He got a little smile on his face, wiped a tear from his eye, and started dancing a bit. We tried to get Henlie to dance with him, but she had none of that. They also had their kids out in the yard with their puppy, and they let Henlie pet the puppy. Good times.
The husband took two, and this is the less fuzzy one haha.
I have to include it, though, because it's the only one showing off our shirts.
We got at least 3 compliments from random people throughout town on them.
They were a hit in the conservative little town of Malad City, Idaho.
It's nice to know that somewhere, traditional values are still predominant :)

Sorry, I wasn't really paying attention when she first talked about these, so I don't know who is in the photo behind us....

So, we were waiting around, and there was this baby pine tree next to the cabin that was about the same height as Henlie.
She loved that tree!
Okay, she loves to pet and play with all pine trees, actually.
She's a weirdo.... :)
After the wagon picked us up and took us back to the park, I made another executive decision to take Grumpy to his old house and then the war memorial. They had talked about driving back to the cabin with Grandma since it was a relation, but then we would have had to wait.... and we didn't really want to spend all of Saturday up there :)
The house where Grandpa grew up.
He so did not remember the address right, haha.
For the record, it is at 490 W Bannock St.
Grandpa, Me, and Henlie in front of his old house
We found Grandpa's old house. Across the street was Uncle Tom's house (which totally reminded me of the book Uncle Tom's Cabin, which I never finished reading, although it was required in my 11th grade English class...), and next to Grumpy's house was his Grandma's house. Grumpy lived with her for a bit and helped on the farm. Her barn was across the street next to Uncle Tom's house.

Grumpy left school after, I think, 11th grade and went down to Utah to work. I think it was in Springville/Mapleton. He worked for a summer and then came back to live with his Grandma. He got tired of working on the farm, and then moved to Lehi, where his parents had relocated to. Apparently his Grandma's husband was a teacher and had left to California to teach. Grandma refused to sell the farm, so she stayed and raised the kids. Koreen told it like her husband was a deadbeat who abandoned her.
Painted on the side of the Texaco. I was impressed.

I was sad, my Grandma told a story about staying at Grumpy's Grandma's house, and I videoed it, but it was so windy you can't hear anything she said :( But here it is, Granny remembers staying at Grumpy's Grandma's when my mom, Kathy, was a baby. They slept on a feathered mattress, and Grandma gave my mom her first dollar. Granny doesn't remember what happened to that dollar, though. :)
Family selfie with Grumpy's name, waiting for everyone else to come.
Grumpy pointing to his name with Henlie
After Grumpy's house, we went over to the war memorial. Matt and I stopped in Malad on our way home from our second anniversary trip and found his name, but we hadn't been to get a picture with Grandpa :) So we did that. Lots of pictures. Henlie was getting tired because it was nap time and she wasn't napping. In order to stay awake, she was running all over the place. Very exciting. Luckily, Elisabeth brought her tripod, so we were able to get a group shot with the monument, too. I haven't seen that one up on FB yet. Seriously, I'm going to steal pictures and do a favorites or something post :)
Henlie didn't want to get too close to Granny lol
Granny, Henlie, and Grumpy with the Navy logo - the branch Grumpy served in.
At this point, it was lunch time. Across the street was the Dude Ranch Cafe. I suggested we all go there because we wouldn't have to drive anywhere. No one had been there before, but we decided with a name like that, they couldn't be terribly exotic, so we went.
Henlie and Elisabeth were playing across the table - we love Elisabeth :)
Turns out that was a great idea. The food was reasonably priced. They had normal options (although we decided Gordon Ramsay would have a heyday with their very packed menu haha). The service staff was nice and friendly. We were able to get a table grouping with just the right amount of chairs, in T shape, so we totally put Granny and Grumpy at the head of the table :) The food was yummy - and the portions were HUGE. We'd ordered Henlie a small order of tater tots to munch on if she wanted since she'd already had a banana, and it was so big! Steven ordered chicken fried steak which came with it's own medium-sized loaf of bread. It was craziness.
Elisabeth's dinner came with a salad, which she didn't want. She made Ryker go to the salad bar to get something for himself, but he didn't want anything either, so he came back with a bowl full of peas, which we all shared haha. Elisabeth then taught Henlie to stick a pea between her teeth. Henlie tried really hard to copy her. She did manage to get one a couple of times between her lips. It was so funny!
Peas! We were laughing so hard...
The bathroom was a little odd with the water heater in the same room and a soft spot in the floor, but they gave us all free mini ice cream cones with white chocolate and raspberry ice cream. Elisabeth graciously accepted mine. Steven also got two, but that is because his ice cream decided to relocate itself from the cone to the tabletop haha.
YUM!
Both of them enjoying their ice cream.
Our server was so happy we let her have it.
In reality, she didn't let me hold hers, but she did let Daddy help her hold it.
Best thing ever!
Steven finishing his cone after his ice cream relocated.
After lunch, we headed back to Utah. Judging by the pictures I've seen on Facebook, the rest of them drove out to the cabin so Granny and the Beardalls could see it and get a little more family history in. The Welsh Festival is kind of lame, but spending a weekend away with family is awesome :)
Daddy enjoying watching Henlie eat her ice cream.
Elisabeth got creative with her ice cream cones. :)
She was so happy to have two haha
I love this picture haha
We saw this on our way home, and Matt wanted me to take a picture.
So I did.
Henlie's highlights:
1- The playground. My how she loved that playground! (Let's admit, I did too. I hope it doesn't change to become "safer" ever.)
2- Swimming. Even though it was cold, she loved the splash pad, and she loved getting to play in the pool with everybody.
3- Ice cream. She thought that was the best thing ever! (I'm also pleased that by the time I got around to doing laundry, prewashing and a lot of Shout got the raspberry stains completely out! Huzzah!)
