Art City Days parade

Posted by Amber

Saturday, June 14th, was the Art City Days Grand Parade in Springville.  For the first time since I joined pipe band, we went to Art City Days.  It is the same weekend as the Utah Scottish Festival, but I opted to let Matt just go and do his thing while we partied closer to home.

I love the old cars :)

Fiddler on the Roof - I was entertained.

We met up with some of my family pretty much right at the beginning of the parade.  Good thing they sat closer to the end than the beginning haha.  We saw my uncle David as we were walking over there.  He brought his daughter, Rebecca, to the parade, but had to leave to take his son, Benjamin, to karate. We stopped as the flag passed at the beginning of the parade.  The lady we stopped by offered to let us sit there.  It was kind, but we let her know we had family a little further down. :)

 My adorable cousin, Elisabeth :)

A trailer for Matt - I could do road trips this way :)

Ignore the random dude and look at the pretty peacocks!

 This dragster was LOUD!

A baby dragster :)

We found them and set up chairs.  Henlie wasn't too certain of everything at first.  In her true fashion, she just sat and observed for quite awhile.

Checking everything out while Riley plays games in the background.  He wasn't too interested in the parade.

Henlie and Ryker watching the Springville marching band go by.

Rebecca was all about getting the candy and came prepared with a grocery bag to collect her goodies.  One entry was tossing otter pops, so I made her get two ;)  Henlie enjoyed her otter pop.  I don't know if hers came this way or if she bit it when I wasn't being speedy enough to help her get more, but she ended up with a hole halfway down the plastic and got her shirt all blue.  Baby wipes got most of it out, though.  Then we wrapped the pop in a wipe to contain further leaks :)

Another entry had teens handing out candy, and one of the girls was making sure all the little kids hanging back got a sucker.  She walked right up to Henlie and handed her one.  It was the sweetest thing.  That girl is an angel :)  Henlie also enjoyed her sucker :)

UVU's entries came, and I was all sorts of excited and yelling.  Elisabeth commented that I was super excited about UVU.  Of course I was!  It's my alma mater!

Besides, who doesn't love Willy?!?

Most random entry goes to the guy who decided to get someone to pull a flatbed trailer with his drum set on it and play a really long drum solo.  Seriously, so random.  But the guy was pretty good, and Henlie loved it.  She loves drums.  She loves to play Daddy's drums, whether his practice pad or his drum set.  She plays his drum set more than he does :)  She got so excited when the drummer went by, and she started rocking out :)

Dog? Check.
Drum set? Check.
What else do you need?

Another favorite of Henlie's were the horse entries.  She loves horses.  She would say, "Horse!" And sometimes make horse noises.  There was also an inflatable duck in one entry, but while she told me it was a duck, she wasn't as taken with it as she was the horses.

Later in the parade, Henlie got comfortable and took Elisabeth out to the street with the other kids.  It was so cute.  We were hanging out playing and dancing to all of the musics.  One such entry was a float for a production of Tom Sawyer (which my old neighbor and Elisabeth's current neighbor is in).  We were dancing to the music, and one of the kids with flyers came over dancing too.  Yeah, I totally danced with this teenage boy haha.  Then he's like, "You have to come to my show! C'mon!" haha Needless to say, I had to accept the flyer.  After he left, Elisabeth asked if I knew him.  Nope!

One entry was handing out pretty flowers.  I happened to say, "I want a flower!" And the girl totally gave me one.  At that point, Elisabeth quoted scripture, "Ask, and ye shall receive." :)  Henlie promptly claimed it for her own.  It was nearly as tall as she was!  She had fun playing with it, but the stem snapped, so I took it back.  It is still doing well in a cup of water in my house, though.

 Smelling the flower

What was left of the stem :)

We had fun at the parade, although it was kind of chilly.  I'm just glad I had family who went and saved us some spots!  Also, I'm really glad my cousin Elisabeth was there, because she's awesome and freaking hilarious. (No, she didn't pay be to say that, she just is!)  Ryker even carried our chairs back to the car for us.  I sure love my family :)

Children's Arts Festival

Henlie and I have spent a lot of time in Springville this month.  Friday, June 13th, we ventured over to the Art Museum for the Children's Arts Festival, part of the Art City Days celebrations.  It was a great price = free!  Henlie was kind of little for a lot of the activities, but we had fun.

We stopped by the information booth and got the art scavenger hunt card and a map.  They also let us know when we were done, we could pick a prize.  We first stopped at a booth doing paper plate visors.  Henlie loves coloring, and wore her hat most of the time we were outside.  They made it kind of big on her, though :)

 Coloring her paper plate

 Wearing her visor

We wandered a bit more and found Matt's aunt Roxanne, who was at the Under the Sea booth.  They had cardboard sea creatures you put under your paper and then did crayon rubbings.  It was one of the few things Henlie could really do :)  Aunt Roxanne took a couple pictures and sent them to me :)  It was fun to see her.

Saying hi to Aunt Roxanne :)

Me helping Henlie make her crayon rubbings.
Thanks for sending me the picture, Roxanne!

Thanks for sending this to me, Roxanne!

Henlie checking out her picture.

After visiting with Roxanne, we colored some sunglasses (yes, real ones) and grabbed a bracelet and pen from Warren Orthodontics.  The sunglasses are quite big on her, but it was fun.  After that, Henlie colored with sidewalk chalk.  They had a whole lot of chalk and lots of sidewalk.  Henlie loved it.  She got really, colorfully into it :)

She sat right down on an existing picture, getting her bottom all colorful.
Very exciting for the first day wearing those overalls (which were mine when I was little haha).

Then she got really into it and laid down.  I was quite glad she was in overalls so only one article of clothing got colored.  No worries, it all washed out :)

*Side note* She totally picked out her socks.  I was happy they matched lol

After sidewalk chalk, we went inside the museum.  Henlie liked the fountain there.  We were able to get spots for story time, too.  After stories, we headed back to the information booth to get a prize.  Crayola was a sponsor, so all of the prizes were provided by them.  Henlie picked a four-pack of crayons.  Then it was off to home :)

 Chillin' in the museum

 Story time!

Fun-A-Rama

Posted by Amber

June is starting to be a busy month for us!  Good busy, though.  Like socializing and having fun experiences busy :)

My adorable sister-in-law invited Henlie and me to go to Fun-A-Rama, part of the Art City Days celebrations.  Basically it was a fun thing for kids, although ideally, a little older than our kids, turns out :)

They had bounce houses and other inflatable toys.  Henlie and Charlie tried out the giant twister pad.  Henlie took off, but then found balancing wasn't so easy on it and quickly became less enthused about the whole thing.  Charlie did a little better, but still didn't play on it long.

We got there in time for a little bouncing before the first magic show.  The magician was mildly entertaining.  The kids thought he was hilarious, though.  Ours were more interested in what was going on around them and watching other kids, rather than the magic.  But they loved clapping when everyone else clapped!

After the magician, we wandered a bit to see what else there was to do.  We stopped and got the girls temporary tattoos.  Charlie got a snake and Henlie got a blue butterfly.  We wandered back to the twister pad, but Henlie wanted nothing to do with it.  She and I hung out and took some pictures while Charlie played.

We did some wandering while Charlie and Camile attempted some of the other inflatable toys that Henlie was definitely too little for.  Turns out Charlie wasn't quite up to them either. :)  We saw they had a swing carousel, so we walked over to try that because Henlie LOVES swings.  They were a hit.

 Swings, Round 1

Charlie is much more expressive than Henlie :)

You can't really tell from the pictures or video, but Henlie truly loved the swing.  She was so serious during it, but when it came time to take her off, she was super upset, yelling "Swing!"  After our first ride, the line was sufficiently short that we got back in it and let the girls ride a second time.  It was the same reaction at the end of it.  She did not want to get off!  I'm just glad we found something for her to do, and that she liked it.  It made it worth the $5 to get in :)

A picture before Swings, Round 2

Charlie and Camile waving as she swings by.

I think this is my favorite of Charlie haha

 And then there's Henlie lol
So serious.

After the swings, we thought about letting the girls ride the train, but the line was way too long.  Instead, we looked at the food vendors and thought about getting some lunch.  Camile suggested we just go to her house and have grilled cheeses instead.  So we did.  So much cheaper, and we got to hang out and cool down in the house :)  After lunch, the girls read books, and then it was time to go home!

Aunt Camile is a great storyteller :)

 The girls were enthralled :)

Some more random photos :)

She wanted to be under the blanket, even though it was pretty warm in the house :)

We got Dad to come on a walk with us to the playground one day :)

He and Mocha relaxed in the shade.

A lovely late Sunday afternoon at Grandma and Grandpa Biggs' house :)
Matt, Henlie, Carrie (Grandma), Jennifer, and Larry (Grandpa)

One day, Matt got up before I did and got the baby out of bed.  Usually she is all over and wanting up on the bed and then down, and chasing kitties.  I finally had to get up just because it was so quiet!
I found her like this, watching TV (probably Daniel Tiger) on the couch by herself.

A true little mommy, eating with one hand and cradling a baby in the other.

She likes to play with my old sunglasses :)

So many things about this one!
1 - such a messy face from eating a cereal bar.
2 - That expression hahaha
3 - The crown is one I printed and put together for a sharingtime on King Benjamin.  I told her she could play with it and destroy it after primary.  She did eventually find it :)

More messy faced crown wearing

Finally got a shot of our little humming bird friend who comes to our feeder.
Not nearly as awesome as yours, Elisabeth :)
