Hadfield Family Camp 2014 - Part 1

Posted by Amber

Family camp was the week of the 24th this year.  We finally actually camped last year, staying just one night.  This year, I got brave and said, "Let's stay two nights!"  So we camped Thursday through Saturday.  But that wasn't all!  Matt was home Tuesday and I don't work Tuesdays, so we headed up the canyon to visit the family already there.  Unfortunately for us, they took off on a 4-wheeler ride.  With John and Larry, that is an all-day event.  They went to Salamander Ponds....and we had no clue where that was, so we hung around for awhile.  Finally, as we were deciding we should just head home, the crew arrived.  We chatted for about 30 minutes before we had to go home to put Henlie to bed.

Henlie found some abandoned cars to entertain herself while we waited for everyone to get back from the ponds.

Thursday, July 24th, is Pioneer Day in Utah.  It is also the ONE day a year people congregate at my Grandparents Erdmann's house.  So, we went and got some lunch and hung out for a little while.  Then it was off to hone to finish packing and drive up the canyon! (So, I didn't take any pictures at the Erdmann's...)

We picked a spot for our tent and got it set up.  I spent awhile making it "home."  Huge shout-out to Jason and Camile for letting us borrow their cots since they weren't camping this year. Also, they left Charlie's bike up the canyon when they came Wednesday.  It was great.  All of the kids loved playing on it!

We spent the rest of the day chatting and playing.  After dinner, we had family home evening, complete with skits, music, and a lesson from Grandpa Hadfield.  Then it was time for bed.  Henlie didn't do so hot. She woke up in the middle of the night and could not be consoled.  She and I ended up walking around outside - in the dark - for awhile.  She finally fell asleep again, and I could go back inside and put her to bed.

haha - that face! Riding the bike :)

 Setting up our tent

Making dough with Aunt 'Chelle out of corn starch and conditioner.  Smelled like strawberries :)
Also, it works really well!

The kids were penned up in Chloe's kennel - Henlie put herself in the corner.
She was happy about it.

Do not be deceived.  The grump face is because no one is pushing her ;)

 FHE with Grandpa Hadfield

My baby is going to be a soccer star!

We also brought her washable doll and stroller so she'd have something to push around.

More to come!

My Little Goofball

I bring you . . . . a ridiculous amount of random pictures of my favorite midget goofball :)

She loves the chiropractor's office.  One day, we got out of the car and she said, "Toys!"
Yes, she always gets a trinket or two at the chiropractor.
This day, she got some stickers and is showing them off :)

It was entirely too quiet in my house....

 And this is why.

She doesn't get to use pens anymore :)

She got her very own sleeping bag for camping!

 She liked it :)

She wouldn't put her cup or brush down...
Wearing her pretty flower and a necklace that I kept of my mother's.
So, her first necklace worn was her grandmothers. :)

She loves drums.  I helped her get Daddy's harness on :)

We had an awfully fun filled Tuesday on July 29th.

Henlie decided she was making "messy cake"
That is now her new name for Play Doh.

So naturally, we had to make a cake.
It has a candle.
Candles on cakes must be blown out!

Bah ha ha ha ha :D

She kicked my arm away as I took the photo, but I love how happy she is!
This fun filled Tuesday also involved a play date at Grandma's house, but that will be in its own post :)

We received awesome customer service from a fellow ginger at the Little Caesars in town.
Henlie wasn't too happy by the time we were done waiting in line, and the cashier gave her two bags of cookies, one for each hand.

She found one of my sports bras and brought it out.
I love how she's looking down it haha.

Her daddy helped her put it on.
haha this pose :)

She's not really sleeping, but she did lay on my pillow and pull the blanket up on her own :)

We installed the YouTube app on the Xbox One.
She enjoyed watching the videos of her on my YouTube account.
Then we watched some Elmo's Song :)

She's a good little dog walker.

Using Daddy's drum case as a coloring table :)

I turned the camera to forward, showed her where the shutter button was, and she took her own selfies :)

 Kisses after my workout :)

Enjoying some snuggles and cracker snacks :)

My little girl is growing up!  She went down the big curvy slide all on her own.
The first time took some coaxing, but after that, she went again and again.

Some notable mentions

Since Independence Weekend, there have been a few things going on, but don't really deserve their own post or have already been posted (like our first ever FHE :)).

First up, the Payson Scottish Festival.  We go every year.  I've gone for as long as I can remember, even before I played bagpipes.  For awhile, my cousin Angie played in the high school pipe band.  I think she is the reason I wanted to play bagpipes :)

I didn't go up to Thanksgiving Point this year, but since Payson is free and it ends up being a mini reunion of sorts with friends and family, we went.  I got the last parking spot in the church lot when I got there, so that was pretty sweet.  Henlie and I walked down to Taco Time for some lunch and then headed over to the band field.  I didn't even really look through booths this year.  They're all the same :p  I missed one of Matt's performances and only half paid attention to the one I did watch haha.  But it was fun hanging out with some of my family and seeing old friends.  I was sad we didn't get to see Andrew.  He was supposed to come out to judge, but his mother died.  Not saying we should have seen him!  Obvs.  Luckily for the games, BJ was available and willing to step in to judge.  I didn't even really take any pictures, except a few of Henlie and her Daddy.

At this point, she was soooo tired.  Also, she is holding her quesadilla from Taco Time :)
We went for a walk in the stroller and she took a nice nap :)

Next up was Grandpa Erdmann's birthday.  My dad turned 63 on July 17th.  Since we don't live nearby, we decided to make Grandpa a birthday card.  Henlie worked on it for a couple of days.  I didn't take a picture of the card :/ She also opted to color the envelope :)  On July 15th, we headed to the post office to mail Grandpa's card.  It got there on his birthday.  Win.

The envelope décor.  We even had a few leftover "Celebrate!" stamps from Henlie's birthday last year :)

At the post office, getting ready to mail Grandpa's card!
She did it all by herself!

Primary

We have fun in Primary.  We still don't have new people called for the callings that need filled (ugh), but we've been having a blast in Primary as of late.  Between my phone and Nancy Trotter's iPad, we also have a tendency to document and then share with the rest of the world via FB what we're up to.  Some public humiliation is good for you every now and then, right? :)

Denise has taken over singing time until we get someone new called.  This was her first week, and the kids got to put dots on their teachers for either singing well or answering questions about the song correctly :)

Stephanie, Nancy, and Pam.

Johanna and Jeremy (Jeremy and Heike were subbing this week. Haha, lucky them!)

The following week, Connie and I were helping Denise with singing time, and Nancy repaid the favor :)

This week, we pulled the piano around front.  The kids got to pick something off of the clothesline to have our pianist wear.  That backpack was pretty heavy, so I had to hold it up.  Otherwise, it just fell right off.

This week, Denise had an "I Spy" hat.  The kids got to pick out one thing that reminded them of someone in their family and share why.  Then they got to wear the hat while we sang :)

Denise showing off the "I Spy" hat :)

I didn't add the kids to FB, but I did send a few picture messages to their mothers ;)
Jackson

 Savannah, Connie's daughter :)

Denise is pretty fabulous at singing time, don't you think? Maybe they'll release her from president and let her stay chorister? :)

Independence Weekend - July 5th

On Saturday, we let Henlie have another go at the Pop-Its and sparklers.  We started earlier so she could actually play for a bit.  She did hold the sparklers, with some help.  She also helped me clean up the Pop-Its from Friday and Saturday :)

Mom helping Henlie with a sparkler.

Baby and fire = happy Daddy

 Sparkler = happy baby

She wouldn't throw the Pop-Its, so we had to put her shoes on for her to step on them.

So....she was trying to sit on/hug the dog in the bathroom.  Mocha wasn't a fan and wriggled her way out from under Henlie.  Henlie landed forehead first on the bathroom tile.  It healed pretty quickly, fortunately, but there is a pic of her little bruised goose egg.

Helping clean up all of the Pop-Its mess.
